Improve your training with a launch monitor

Over the past decade, a lot has happened in the world of golf. As well as making golf clubs more playable, radar technology and launch monitors have become available to the average golfer. So gone are the days of standing on the range and guessing exactly how far the ball travelled. Now we can get accurate answers to our swing speed and how far the ball is travelling at a relatively low cost.

Learn exactly how far you hit your clubs

If you are completely honest, do you know how far you hit a full PW on a Swedish summer day? I think many golfers have no answer to that question. Possibly many have a rough idea, but a difference of 5-10 metres will result in a lot of missed greens that you should have hit. With the help of a radar, you can practice hitting the ball exactly 100 metres and get direct feedback on your performance. Amazing, isn't it?

In this article, we will go through three different radars to find out which one suits your training best. The products have different functions and are in different price ranges. We can guarantee that we have a radar for every golfer, whether you are only interested in swing speed and carry or if you want to keep track of swing path, apex and face angle.

Which model suits you and your training?

PRGR Portable Launch Monitor

This is the cheapest launch monitor we sell and hence it is a slightly more stripped down version. PRGR measures your swing speed, ball speed, smash factor, carry and total length. It is therefore suitable for those who want to know how far you hit with your clubs. Maybe you are trying to increase your swing speed with the driver? Even then, the PRGR is an excellent alternative. Important to remember when using this product is to always have the right club set on the monitor. This is because the algorithm works in a way where it applies a standard value of spin in relation to swing speed and ball speed. If the monitor is set to the wrong club, the carrot will be calculated with the wrong spin and therefore not show the correct value.

Advantages:

  • • Easy to use

  • • Can be used directly, no need to connect to a phone.

  • • Provides all the values you need to train on your length control.

  • • Very good price.

Rapsodo Mobile Launch Monitor

This model is slightly more advanced. Here you have the opportunity to connect the device to an app where you can save your statistics. You also get access to some more values such as launch angle. In the associated app, you can also film your swing for each shot. This way you can work visually on how your swing looks for a certain type of shot.

According to Rapsodo, this radar is very accurate and one of their sales pitches is that MLM has a distance accuracy that is within 2% compared to a trackman at 2% of the price of a trackman.

Advantages:

  • • Companion app

  • • Easy to use

  • • Provides accurate values.

  • • Includes launch angle

Garmin R10

This is the premium version of the smaller type of radar. With the R10 you get almost all values in the swing + virtual golf. This one fits just as well on the range as it does in your own home studio. Do you want to geek out on your own swing or are you perhaps looking to swing the club on a particular swing path? Then the Garmin R10 is right for you. With the R10 you can get all the values that you get on the above products + important values that control the ball path such as swing path, face to path, angle of attack, launch angle, backspin, side spin and ball apex.

Advantages:

  • • Associated app

  • • Virtual golf

  • • Gives you a wide range of accurate values

  • • Ability to save statistics on all clubs.
